Yoga for Emotional Wellness – 4 Week Series

Week 2: October 14, 2:30 -3:30 pm
Week 3: October 21, 2:30 -3:30 pm
Week 4: October 28, 2:30 -3:30 pm

Cost $48 for all 4 weeks, $16 walk-in for a single week class

This 4 session class series is uniquely designed to be a trauma sensitive class. It will have a body based or bottom up approach demonstrated in research to help reduce stress and anxiety and other related symptoms. The concepts, breath work, and postures in this class are based on research and ideas from the works of Bessel A Van Der Kolk, MD, Peter Levine, PhD, David Emerson and Elizabeth Hopper, PhD.
What does this mean? Through this class series we will explore yogic postures and breathing allowing us to learn how to remain present, make effective choices, and create rhythms. Yoga has been shown to improve activation of certain areas in our brain that allow positive changes in mood, sleep, and anxiety. These are often areas of dysfunction associated with past traumatic experiences. In this class series we will learn some more about how and why the practice of yoga can make a difference.

Persons encouraged to consider taking this 4 session class series include those with high stress, addictions, chronic fatigue or pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, PTSD, history of trauma in childhood or adulthood, or those interested in learning more about trauma sensitive yoga.

This class is not intended to take the place of conventional therapy and we will not be discussing any personal trauma history. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

Tapas Flow: Ignite the Inner Flame

Friday, March 22, 2019, 6:00 – 7:15 pm

Cost $18 (Specialty)

Centuries ago an Indian sage and yogi named Patanjali wrote the Yoga Sutras, which describes the workings of the human mind and prescribes a path for achieving a life free from suffering.

Tapas is one of the most powerful concepts in the Yoga Sutra. The word “tapas” comes from the Sanskrit verb “tap” which means “to burn.” The traditional interpretation of tapas has been translated as heat, fire, unwavering zeal, and passion. Tapas may be understood as the will to cleanse oneself by burning away impurities through the regular practice of yoga. Through this burning off of impediments, we can come to the true state of yoga – union with the universe.

This class is about understanding tapas as a consistent and dedicated striving towards the goal of getting on the mat every day. It’s about the discipline it takes to arrive in practice each day, even the days that it’s hard to get out of bed, or the days that our schedule is “busy”.

The tapas flow will include a focus on strength, heat, Sun Salutations A, B, C, & D, and a chance to explore your own self-discipline. Previous yoga experience is helpful for this workshop, but options will be provided to create a safe space to explore challenges.

Restorative yoga requires no previous yoga experience. All postures are done lying or seated on the ground with various props to support you. The intention is to create a space where you can completely and fully relax the body and mind in order to receive the benefits of the Reiki experience.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “Higher Wisdom or Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. Thus, Reiki can be translated as a “spiritually guided life force energy.” While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It is an energy transfer channeled by those who have been trained in and attuned in the Reiki Tradition of Master Mikao Usui and received by anyone open to its healing powers. A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include: relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being.
